Understanding and Overcoming Energy Drain in Working Professionals

Namasthe dear readers! Welcome to another discussion of the day on “ Voice of Chittan”.

Have you ever found yourself completely drained by the end of the workday, even when it seemed like you didn't do much physically? Do you wonder why some days you feel so much more fatigued than others? What if I told you that your daily habits, both in the office and at home, might be stealing your energy right under your nose?

In this blog post, we'll delve into some common energy zappers that working women often encounter and explore practical ways to overcome them. We'll ask questions like:

  • How can inactivity during work hours sap your energy?
  • Why do sugary snacks make you feel more tired instead of giving you a boost?
  • What impact does bringing work home have on your overall energy levels?
  • How can office gossip and multitasking drain your mental and physical reserves?

Let's identify these energy suckers and learn how to turn negatives into positives. By the end of this post, you'll have a toolkit of strategies to reclaim your vitality and passion for work. Let's dive in!

Have you ever felt more tired after a day of sitting at your desk than after a day of physical activity? Sedentary lifestyles can be incredibly draining, even though they might seem less demanding. Sitting for long periods makes your body feel like it's time to rest, leading to a significant energy drain.

The Fix:

  • Try sitting on a yoga ball to engage your core and improve posture.
  • Employers can introduce mid-day walking groups to keep everyone active.

Do you often reach for sugary snacks to combat the afternoon slump? As tempting as it is to grab a quick sugar fix, these snacks can leave you feeling more drained. Studies show that sugar consumption can reduce alertness and energy levels.

The Fix:

  • Remove the candy bowl from your workspace.
  • Replace sugary snacks with healthier options like fresh fruit or smoothies.
  • Encourage your office to stock a sparkling water vending machine instead of soda.

Do you find it hard to switch off from work, even after you’ve left the office? Constantly bringing work home can blur the boundaries between professional and personal life, leading to exhaustion.

The Fix:

  • Track your project progress with tools  to manage time better.
  • If tasks are taking too long, don’t hesitate to ask for help.
  • Employers should foster an environment where work-life balance is respected and encouraged.

Have you noticed how gossiping drains your energy and brings a negative vibe? Engaging in office gossip not only affects your energy but also contributes to a toxic work environment.

The Fix:

  • Opt out of gossip sessions and focus on positive interactions.
  • Organisations can implement a no-gossip policy and promote a culture of truth and fairness.

Do you often juggle multiple tasks but feel like you’re not making real progress? Multitasking can lead to sloppy work and faster burnout because it divides your focus and energy.

The Fix:

  • Tackle one task at a time to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Disconnect from distractions, such as email, when focusing on a task.
  • Take handwritten notes in meetings to stay present and avoid digital distractions.

Do you feel drained after talking to colleagues/friends/people who constantly complain? Chronic complainers can sap your energy and affect your mental health with their persistent negativity.

The Fix:

  • Sympathize and validate their feelings but quickly move on to another topic.
  • Limit your interactions with chronic complainers to maintain your own positivity.

Does leaving tasks unfinished make you anxious and tired? Unfinished tasks can linger in your mind and drain your energy.

The Fix:

  • Prioritize your to-do list and focus on completing tasks one at a time.
  • Enjoy the satisfaction of crossing items off your list to stay motivated.

That Random day in my life.....

That day began like any other, filled with gratitude to Narasimha and hope for the day ahead. I went to work, but by mid-day, something shifted. I fell sick—suddenly, unexpectedly—and as the hours passed, my condition worsened. It wasn’t just an ordinary illness; this time, it felt heavy, like a storm I couldn’t escape.  For a moment, I wondered if I would survive. And in that quiet space, where everything else faded, two thoughts consumed me: What about my son? Will my husband manage without me? And then a strange question arose—Is my purpose done? Am I leaving because I’ve already fulfilled what I came to do? ( may be if we feel that moments are our last seconds and if we feel that we don't see tomorrow, then the most precious things alone we might be remember and we would recollect ..it would have scroll down like a reel those precious moments, and so i felt about my son and husband)  After several tests, the diagnosis finally came through: viral and bacterial pneumoni...

నాన్న కు చివరి వీడ్కోలు లేఖ

In the wake of my father's death, I found myself navigating a grief, but within that sorrow, I discovered profound truths about the essence of life itself. It unveiled the fragility of life, urging me to embrace each moment with a newfound appreciation for its fleeting beauty. In the silence of my grief, I unearthed the importance of cherishing the relationships that enrich our lives. My father's absence served as a stark reminder to express love and gratitude freely, for tomorrow is never promised, and regrets weigh heavier than words left unspoken. Moreover, his passing unveiled the resilience of the human spirit, teaching me that even in the darkest of times, there is strength to be found within. Through the depths of my sorrow, I discovered an inner resolve to honor his memory by living a life of purpose, resilien...

Losing my father was one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced. But you know what? It changed me. It taught me lessons I don’t think I would have learned otherwise. It’s like life whispered, "Here’s the truth—take it, hold it, and grow with it." One of the first things I learned was how important it is to stand on your own.I realized I had to become that for myself. Independence isn’t just about surviving—it’s about finding strength you didn’t know you had. And trust? Oh, that was a big one. I’ve learned to be careful with trust. Not everyone deserves it, and that’s okay. But here’s the thing—I haven’t closed myself off. I’ve just beco...

The Beauty of Slowing Down

Hey all,Namaste. thank you for tuning in voice of chittan blog.  Today, I want to talk about something we often overlook but desperately need:  "the art of doing nothing.” Life has a funny way of surprising us, doesn’t it? There are days when no matter how hard we plan, things just don’t go our way. Deadlines get missed, expectations aren’t met, and sometimes, it feels like the world is rushing by while we’re stuck in slow motion. It’s frustrating, right? But what if I told you that these unexpected pauses are not failures—they’re opportunities? Opportunities to breathe. To reflect. To just be. Think about it. From the moment we wake up, we’re chasing something—goals, recognition, validation, or even the next item on our to-do list. But do we ever pause and ask ourselves, “Why?” Why are we running? And more importantly, where are we running to? Here’s the thing: not every day has to be about hitting targets or checking boxes. Sometimes, the most meaningful moments come ...

If the Entire Team Fails, Then the Manager Also Fails: Understanding Shared Responsibility

" When a team fails, the manager/leader fails too. A leader never have blaming tone, but sets an inspiration". Hey all Namasthe,  In the world of organisation ,failure is often seen as a setback, a sign that something went wrong. When an entire team fails, it can feel like a disaster. However, the true measure of a manager is not in how they handle success, but in how they manage failure. While a bad manager might blame their team to remain in their boss’s good books, a good manager understands that leadership means taking responsibility, learning from mistakes, and turning failure into an opportunity for growth. Here’s how a manager can win, even when their team fails. 1. Accept Responsibility The first step in turning failure into victory is for the manager to accept responsibility. This doesn’t mean shouldering all the blame, but rather acknowledging their role in the team’s performance. A good manager understands that they are accountable for the team's results, and t...

Then asked myself on “ What is the definition of Success?” “Does someone else validate it?” You all know and It is a bitter fact that Judgemental exists everywhere, how to sail the ocean of expectations!!!!  As women, we often find ourselves wearing multiple hats in our lives - caretakers, professionals, partners, friends - the list goes on. Let us understand the power of self-acceptance and the freedom it brings.  Here, I share some of my opinions and insights in the hope of inspiring others to take their stand and reclaim their sense of self.
